“Coming Out of the Dark” is one of the first paintings I created for the collection and it was a collaboration with my Instagram followers in a format I call the “People’s Choice Painting”—I ask several questions in my Instagram stories in a poll format to find out which flowers, citrus and colors they want me to paint. I was able to arrange this beautiful composition with the top choices: a deep blue background with coral peonies, white hydrangea and brilliant lemons. It felt collaborative and connecting in a time where we are all isolating. I documented every step of the process and shared on Instagram and did my first live painting event with this painting—this has been a time for coming up with creative solutions, finding new ways to make connections and being open to new ideas.
