The "Wanderlust" Landscape Collection is a small collection of landscape paintings reflecting on the longing we’re feeling to get out into the world and travel and explore in this time of confinement. These landscapes capture the peaceful reassurance that being out in nature’s beautiful, wide open spaces can give us during these times of uncertainty.
Though specific to my memories and personal experiences, the scenes are familiar and universal—sandy shores, vibrant green fields and colorful skies. Right now, I feel lucky to live in Michigan—the Winters can be long and brutal—but the Summers are the best. Literally surrounded by lakes, the concept of weekend trips “Up North” are universal here in the mitten state. You don’t have to travel far to find a lake to swim in or watch a sunset, a trail to hike or bike or a quiet meadow to watch a sunrise. As I was painting my little landscapes for the Wanderlust series, childhood memories of hours playing in the water, reading on the beach and long, meandering drives with nothing but miles of fields were evoked—I am sharing those simple memories with each painting. They are a reminder to me that as much as I wish I were traveling overseas touring bustling cities and seeing all the great art in museums, that there is peace, serenity and healing in the wide open spaces that are close by.
